Washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and neighbouring Portugal, in the far north-west of Spain we find this spectacular region of great natural beauty, stunning coastlines, unspoiled white sandy beaches and glorious seafood and wine.
Pontevedra is a city with a passion for culture and tradition. In recent years it has become almost completely pedestrianised, perfect for taking a stroll to enjoy the beautiful parks and squares and the many bars and restaurants.
The coastline is formed by the Rias Baixas which are dotted with picturesque fishing villages and highly attractive towns such as Baiona, Sanxenxo, O Grove and the Islands of Cíes and A Toja.
Cíes Islands are the Vigo estuary´s greatest treasure. An amazing National park internationally known for the most beautiful beach of the world: Rodas beach. The islands are full of unspoiled beaches with clear waters and spectacular sceneries such as the amazing cliffs that you can see from the lighthouse.
Sanxenxo and Portonovo has a young happening atmosphere with its busy beaches and modern bars.
O Grove is a pleasant fishing village with wide soft sandy beaches. Fresh seafood is a speciality here. O Grove is connected to the island of La Toja by a bridge. La Toja has a reputation for being exclusive and attracts wealthy residents and holiday makers alike. One of the main attractions here is the church which is completely covered in local sea shells.
The old quarter in Combarro has been declared Property of Cultural Interest. Combarro is famous for the crosses situated in the squares or crossroads, the figure of the Virgin Mary is usually facing the sea and Christ is facing the ground.
The long beautiful beaches of A Lanzada have fine sand and turquoise waters. Opposite the beach in the distance is the pretty Island of Ons, a popular destination for boat trips.
Within the province of Pontevedra there are many vineyards. The largest concentration of wineries is in Val do Salnes which surrounds the town of Cambados.
